Steve Regur, Ed.D.
Steve Regur, Ed.D.The Innovator

Steve Regur Ed.D. is a founder and current CEO of the Educators Cooperative, a leader in innovative K-12 education solutions. Dr. Steve Regur Ed.D. graduated from the USC Rossier School of Education in 2010. His doctoral work evaluated the conditions necessary for districts to support college and career ready skills that prepare students to succeed in a dynamically interconnected world. Steve has a very diverse portfolio that includes his work at Educators Cooperative where he leads a diverse team with a wide range of projects designed to empower teachers and increase opportunities for students, while staying grounded in solid research about teaching and learning. Current projects include realigning district practices to drive 21st Century learning, provide embedded support for blended-learning implementations which utilize the current open-source technology. Steve also developed a strategic planning protocol for Common Core implementation and Next Generation Assessment design that infuses the Balanced Instructional Framework, an instructional design that helps teachers align research-based practices with innovative, student-driven approaches. In the past 15 years, he has authored more than $4.2 million in grants for schools; co-founded two innovative K-5 and two 6-12 public schools; and has helped dozens of schools and districts reach student achievement goals.

Amy McCammon holds a Master’s Degree in Education emphasis on Educational Technology. She has been integrating technology into her curriculum since 1990 and has provided numerous workshops to support the 1:1 initiative, Microsoft (™) in the classroom, Google in the Classroom, Creating a Blended Learning classroom and utilizing open source. As an Educational Consultant she has the opportunity to collaborate with innovative school leaders and teachers, provide strategic support for operations, curricular design, and instructional strategies. She helped to coordinate and provide technical support for the start-up of two internationally focused schools in the L.A. area and co-founded two innovative Charter Schools in the Pasadena, CA area which focus on personalized learning, social leadership and healthy living. She has also developed two California Consumer Cooperatives and has performed the roles of Director of Operations and Manager of the Fiscal/Human Resources in both cooperatives. She also prefers to travel by train.

Scott Houston

Experienced coach of both veteran and new teachers.

Advisor to schools in L.A. County who are incorporating a global competency emphasis into their curriculum. This includes the International Studies Learning Center, Ambassador School of Global Leadership, Ambassador School of Global Education, and the Vaughn International Studies Academy. This is a direct partnership with the ASIA Society.

Scott Houston holds a Master of Arts in middle school education and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry. He began his teaching career in Fontana where he taught both middle school and high school over an eight-year period. During this time he also taught night classes for California State University San Bernardino for teachers who wanted to get their Master of Arts degree in Middle School Education. In 2001, he earned his National Board Certification in early adolescent mathematics. He received recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers four years in a row. For the past fourteen years he has been working as a professional educational consultant helping teachers implement research based teaching strategies and most recently preparing districts for the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. He is passionate about collaborating with teachers and designing curriculum that suits their professional teaching style. He also loves dogs.

Kirk holds an MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business and is an experienced education consultant, leadership coach, project manager and classroom teacher.

Kirk’s portfolio of work includes coaching and consulting focusing on strategy, leadership and implementing a wide variety of initiatives. Some of these projects include implementation of project-based learning at the school level, and design and support for blended learning at the district level. He leads development of innovative projects including the design of resource suite including rubrics, outcomes and student self-efficacy statements and performance tasks to develop global competencies in 3rd – 12th grade, and instructional / learning resources to support the development of social/non-cognitive skills in elementary classrooms. Kirk has also been part of “start-up” charter and pilot schools focusing on individualized, globally focused project-based learning.

Kate Bean holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration as well as a California Administrative Credential. Kate is the Executive Director and founder of Aveson Charter Schools. Aveson schools are composed of two public charter schools serving over eight hundred K-12 students in the Pasadena/Altadena area. The focus is personalized learning, social leadership and healthy living. Kate’s previous work in K-12 education included nationwide sales, consulting, and training. Kate has owned and operated Life in the Balance, a personal and business coaching enterprise.

Sebastian Cognetta Ed.D. Dr. Cognetta is currently the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Aveson Charter Schools. He has served as an account manager for the consulting division, overseeing the implementation and managing client relations for the majority of the company. Sebastian has extensive experience in data analysis, administrative coaching, and K-12 literacy and mathematics. Sebastian has worked in professional development and school change throughout the United States focusing on leadership and administrative support.

Ron Carmi

Ron Carmi came into the field of education via Teach For America in 1993. He was placed in New York City and taught Math and Language Arts to middle school students. While in New York, he earned a Master’s degree in Education from NYU and began working in the area of comprehensive school reform. For the past 10 years, Ron has worked directly with students, teachers, and principals, focusing on the implementation of researched-based strategies designed to give each student a meaningful learning experience. Ron also has a passion for music and tries to find ways to incorporate the arts into learning whenever possible.

Chris Foster, Ed.D. has a public school background as teacher, principal, and superintendent in the California school system. For the past eight years, he has been working in higher education in teacher preparation as well as private consulting. Melinda Pierson holds a Ph.D. in Education: Emphasis in Special Education from University of California, Riverside. Dr. Pierson is currently the Chair of the Department of Special Education at Cal State Fullerton. Prior to coming to Cal State Fullerton, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Education at Cal Poly Pomona and was a special education classroom teacher for eight years in the Ontario-Montclair School District and San Marcos Unified School District. She taught K-12th grades with a focus on students with mild/moderate disabilities and served as principal for special education programs. Dr. Pierson currently directs the Education Specialist State Intern Grant as well as the International Center for Education at Cal State Fullerton. She has published over 25 articles in top special education journals.

Sonaleena Hargrove, Ed.D. has completed numerous professional development trainings and projects for school districts, charter schools, non-profit education organizations, and communities of parents. Dr. Hargrove began her teaching career in urban schools in Los Angeles, California, where she taught students of diverse linguistic, academic, and developmental backgrounds in elementary and middle schools. She completed her B.S. in Education, M.S. Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership at USC. Her recent accomplishments include training parents to support reading literacy in students at home using Response to Intervention, and training teachers for The Earth We Share Space Race STEM program by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence.

Jessica Tena
Jessica TenaThe Diplomat

Jessica Tena holds a Master’s in Education. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in English with a Single Subject Teaching Credential. She is currently working with K-12 schools throughout the United States as an Educational Consultant to implement Common Core in professional development, coaching, and instructional design. Prior to working as an Educational Consultant she was named 2013-14 District Teacher of the Year for High School in San Diego Unified School District where she taught English in Title 1 schools for over a decade. She also works as an anti-bias education facilitator for the Anti-Defamation League of San Diego. She supports K-12 schools in creating inclusive school cultures, anti-bullying programming, and building student leadership capacity. This work has led her to serve on the National Teacher Advisory Committee for the Anti-Defamation League. She recently finished her certification to become a Freedom Writer Teacher through the Freedom Writers Foundation with Erin Gruwell in Long Beach, California.

Bob Bowdoin

For over 10 years Bob Bowdoin served as Lead Math Teacher and Content Coach for the Local District 3 Math Cadre within the Los Angeles Unified School District. As a fully credentialed teacher of science and mathematics, Bob also served as Department Chair and member of his School Site Leadership Team.
Bob moved into the role of a consultant and has over 10 years of experience leading the development and delivery of professional development for a variety of audiences, including administrators and teachers in all content areas grades K-12. Some of his experiences include leading DAIT/SAIT teams, organizing, planning and delivering school site teacher support through a coaching cycle of demonstration lessons, co-planning and co-teaching while providing formative teacher feedback opportunities. Other experiences include expert development and delivery of Direct Interactive Instruction, Common Core Math and Next Generation Science Standards implementation, DOK in the classroom, Reciprocal Teaching and English Learner Professional Development.

Leslie Wright

Leslie Wright grew up in Encinitas and has been working in the educational realm since 2000. She attended California State University San Marcos and received her Bachelor of Arts degree and a California Teaching Credential with an emphasis in English. Leslie also holds an Administrative Services credential and has a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration.
Leslie spent 10 years teaching kindergarten and creating hands-on science programs for the Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD), where she received two Outstanding Educational Program awards and over $3500 in grants for the school. In 2011, Leslie moved to the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) to write science curriculum and help implement educational programs. At present, Leslie manages a Health and Wellness program for EUSD and writes the ON the Mat, THROUGH my Actions, and IN the Kitchen components of the Health and Wellness curriculum.
Leslie is married and has two children who attend school at her former alma mater in EUSD. She lives in Encinitas and enjoys spending time with her family and watching her children play sports!

Shelia Wells

Shelia Wells holds a Master’s of Education from Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor’s in Public Relations from California State University, Long Beach. Shelia has taught elementary and middle school in California. She has also served as a district coach and trainer for Math Matters, Open Court, Houghton Mifflin Reading and the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment, (BTSA) In addition to the above experiences, Shelia Wells has worked as a Consultant throughout California for the last 8 plus years providing elementary and middle school administrators as well as teacher’s literacy support. Shelia has also provided Language Arts textbook support for K-8 teachers per the California AB75/AB466 No Child Left Behind Federal Initiative. Shelia has provided various professional developments relative to teaching children and adolescents how to read. She has also provided professional developments, trainings, and classroom support to administrators and teachers on essential literacy skills, fluency, vocabulary comprehension and writing. Prior to Aveson she was a Teach for America Reading Intervention Teacher, grades 6-10. She taught English and Humanities at the secondary level for six years, and was a policy fellow for Los Angeles Unified School District where she researched best practices in technology for professional development. Her passions include empowering students to use their voice to develop their identities through personalized learning.

She worked at the Orange County Department of Education as a literacy specialist supporting schools in the county.
