In most change efforts, improvement is unequal and change fails to spread. Teachers and schools learn best not by reading research reports, listening to speeches, or attending workshops, but by watching, listening, and learning from each other in the very act of teaching itself. When making change, it is as important to build new relationships among people engaged in practices together as it is to spread new knowledge to them.
